This piece is handmade and hand forged. The top is capped in brass and copper with a silver horse head. The bottom capped in brass and copper with a loop for the leather thong. The handle is made from a piece of manzanita found on Mt Lemon in Tucson Arizona at 6800 feet. The feathers are owl feathers. Antique trade beads. The horsehair is from the tail of my favorite horse, my palomino, Trigger who now rides the far country in the sky.
Several years ago a medicine brother of mine passed over and about a year later his family sent me some of his medicine. Included was two wings from an owl and two owl talons. These magic pieces were also incorporated in the wall hanger for mounting this tomahawk. The talons are capped in copper and wrapped in deer hide. Antique silver and trade beads. A buffalo nickel face on one side and the Indian head on the other. The mounting plate is very complex engineering involving handmade rivets and brass and copper plates. It is also made from a piece of Manzanita from MT Lemon.
The spear point and the Bowie knife are also hand forged and will be completed this fall. Brass, copper, silver and manzanita will be used in these pieces as well.
